ASIS is Australia’s overseas secret intelligence collection agency. Its mission is to protect and promote
Australia’s vital interests through the provision of intelligence services as directed by the Government. Its
work can involve collecting intelligence relating to national security, international relations and economic

This role is office based in Canberra.
ROLE
As a member of a small team, the Security Governance Officer is responsible for assisting in the
development and implementation of security policies and frameworks, in collaboration with the Manager,
Security Risk and under the guidance of the Director Security Projects. The role will undertake security
risk assessments, conduct briefings and develop and implement policies relating to projects, including the
conduct of security assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle. The Security Governance Officer
will also review and update security policies as required in support of delivering large projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Advise on security matters throughout the project life-cycle, including planning, design, construction
and possession of facilities;
Assist in developing ASIS policies and procedures for conducting security assurance activities and
during project delivery phases;
Assist in developing and implementing security policies, frameworks and procedures during the
design and throughout the delivery phase of projects;
Identify, assess and mitigate security risks effecting project delivery;
Assist with consulting on security risks and vulnerabilities and assist with formulating and conveying
solutions;
Assist in preparing reports on security activities during project delivery phases; and
Co-ordinate personnel security vetting requests for projects.
CORE SKILLS
Experience in delivering evidence led risk management advice to inform project outcomes,
organisational decisions and drive security outcomes and requirements.
Display clear and confident written and verbal communication and the ability to engage and
negotiate with a range of stakeholders.
Ability to prioritise, organise and work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, often working to tight
timeframes, while achieving project milestones and deadlines.
Qualifications in, or sound awareness of, security risk management processes, and
Demonstrated capacity for discretion and a high standard of security awareness.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The following education, qualifications and/or experience will be highly regarded:
Demonstrated level of reasoning and problem-solving skills,
Sound verbal and written communication skills e.g. clear, succinct and confident communicator,
Sound interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder skills,
Capable of working within a team or independently,
Experience in security frameworks and risks,
Experience with security assurance and/or construction security,
Demonstrated, current knowledge of physical and technical security policies and practices including
the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), and
Preferred but not essential - A Diploma in Security, a Cert IV in Government Security or Security Risk
Management, or other security qualification training.
