This role is based in Canberra.
ROLE
As a Technical Security Specialist, you will assist with management and delivery of technical security risk
services in support of projects. Working as part of a team you will undertake day to day technical inspections
including applying technical security services and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with security
assurance activities. Work undertaken will be complex in nature and the successful applicant will need to
guide others and exercise autonomy in managing key areas of responsibility. Officers will exercise initiative
and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Support the Manager of Technical Security in strategic policy and decision making to enhance ASIS’s
robust technical security culture.
Work as part of the team to make decisions and provide advice and support to project objectives, in
accordance with best practice and physical/technical security policy and guidelines.
Conduct Technical Security Countermeasures (TSCM) inspections as required.
Contribute to security compliance, including risk management and mitigation.
Manage and contribute to reporting for key internal and external stakeholders and assist in formal
reporting as required.
Responsible for the delivery of work that is complex in nature and in line with agreed technical and
physical security outcomes.
Exercise autonomy and leverage individual and team subject matter expertise and in-depth technical
security knowledge to provide accurate and specialised advice and to deliver on allocated tasks and
projects.
Use expertise, good judgement and in-depth knowledge to anticipate and develop key
improvements, resolve issues and queries as they arise and to make decisions.
Develop subject matter expertise through engaging with relevant industry/academic bodies to ensure
currency and enable analytical collaboration and cooperation, and by contributing to the
development of standards, policies, procedures, guidelines, technical capability and training.
Establish, enhance and promote effective client/customer and internal/external stakeholder
relationships to obtain information and ensure alignment with organisational priorities, promoting
own agency’s objectives and contributing to cross-agency planning to achieve operational outcomes.
CORE SKILLS
Undertaking testing using electronic equipment.
An understanding of RF circuits and systems
Undertaking, planning, design, management, execution and reporting of test plans and procedures
using appropriate testing tools and techniques.
Produce technical documentation to support capability acquisition and sustainment activities.
High level knowledge and understanding of current Australian Government security arrangements,
including the Australian Protective Security Policy Framework.
Current knowledge of physical and technical security policies and practices.
Ability to implement proactive and effective security policies.
Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The following education, qualifications and/or experience will be highly regarded:
Experience in the Australian National Security Community
Under direction, organise and deliver tasking, often under time pressure;
Effective written and verbal communication skills;
Relevant experience and/or qualifications for the role.
TSCM qualification or relevent experience
Certificate 3 or 4 in electronics or:
Degree in Electronics or RF communications or
Defence electronic or technical training
RF communications or related discipline
Certificate or Diploma in Government Security and/or Risk Management
