SITEB (EL2 equivalent) Technical Specialist – Cyber Security Operations

The Opportunity
ASIO is seeking a Technical Specialist at the SITEB (EL2 equivalent) to provide technical expertise for threat driven cyber security monitoring and response capabilities for ASIO's internet connected systems. You will be working closely with internal stakeholders, managed service providers, and domestic and international partners to build on existing capabilities to ensure robust cyber security detection and response capabilities are in place to secure ASIO systems and information.
As a cyber security specialist in ASIO, you could be involved in the protection of ASIO from insider and cyber threats, or directly contribute to ASIO's operational activities. ASIO will provide you with the opportunity to develop, expand and apply your skills across the full breadth of its cyber security functions.

A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.

Role responsibilities
As a Technical Specialist, Cyber Security Operations , you will:
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise with a specific focus on cyber security operations.
  • Contribute to strategic direction of the Security Operations Centre (SOC), provide current advice drawn from emerging threat intelligence and apply technical skills to enable effective SOC operations and continuous improvement.
  • Proactively develop strategies to detect and mitigate current and emerging cyber security threats.
- Oversee and lead Threat Hunt and Incident Response activities, including coordination across teams and departments and required pre- and post-activity governance.
  • Ensure effective application of monitoring and response capabilities by working with the Engineering team to design and deliver technical solutions.
  • Work with stakeholders across ASIO to implement and improve cyber security monitoring requirements.
  • Foster and develop relationships with internal ASIO stakeholders, and domestic and international partners to enhance ASIO's information technology security posture and capabilities.

What you will bring
We invite applications from people with the following attributes:
  • Experience working in a cyber security operations centre.
  • Experience with security tooling such as Security Information and Event Monitoring (SIEM) tools (preferably Splunk and/or Sentinel).
  • Relevant qualifications within cyber security (e.g. SANS GIAC certifications, CISSIP, CISM).
  • Strong knowledge of security frameworks, standards and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with stakeholders, including internal technology teams, external managed service providers, vendor professional services and domestic and international partners.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to lead delivery outcomes.
  • Strong security awareness and risk management skills.

Location
These positions are located in Canberra, ACT & Sydney, NSW and applicants must be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is provided to successful candidates where ASIO requires you to relocate.

Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
