Rural Action Renewal - Full Year
Nestled in the foothills of Appalachian Ohio, Rural Action was founded in 1991 on the principle that locally-based, sustainable, and inclusive development is the main strategy for building resilient rural Appalachian communities. Rural Action’s mission is to build a more just economy by developing the region’s assets in environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable ways. We do this work by focusing on sectors identified as important by our members: food and agriculture, forestry, zero waste and recycling, environmental education, watershed restoration, and energy. VISTAs at Rural Action and our host sites are responsible for helping support community members being fed, promoting the use of clean energy, helping social enterprises tell their stories, support public use of music, and help grow our local food hubs. VISTAs are able to grow their network of amazing humans who are all helping to fight poverty and enrich community members' lives. Member Duties : Capacity to leverage our assets to solve our own issues is a challenge for small rural organizations, and finding your place in the world can also be a challenge. National Service is an incredible resource that puts heart and soul into our work and that of many partners. As a Rural Renewal Ameri Corps VISTA member, you will help Rural Action build needed capacity to reach more people and get more done in the communities we work in. Our Rural Renewal VISTA program currently places ten members in year-long terms within programs at Rural Action and Community partners. Since 1994, more than 400 full-time and part-time VISTA members have served rural Appalachian Ohio communities through Rural Action to address community needs and poverty. Come be a part of this tradition of service and gain skills to be a part of the next generation of community leaders.
