In this position, the Ameri Corps member will work w/PCEI staff & volunteers to assist w/day-to-day tasks related to our restoration projects, Nature Center, & native plant nursery. Tasks include: Invasive species control, planting, watering, mowing, monitoring, erosion control, installing & maintaining plant protectors, seeding, minor construction, trail maintenance, & leading volunteer events. The member may also have opportunities to engage in environmental education. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of/desire to learn about plant species & management; Valid driver’s license & good driving record; Experience working w/community & w/managing volunteers; Strong organizational, time management & project management skills w/the ability to work independently & w/a team; Excellent verbal & written communication skills & ability to interact professionally w/diverse team of faculty, staff & students; Microsoft Office Suite including Word,Excel (& experience/openness to learning GIS, web design, & graphic programs); Must be able to lift 50 pounds; Must be able to kneel, remain on feet for multiple hours at a time, & work w/groups in outdoor setting. PROJECT LOCATION/TRANSPORTATION NEEDS: Must have valid driver’s license, site based in Moscow, ID 1040 Rodeo Dr., & travels to project sites. Member Duties : MEMBER DUTIES: Assist w/restoration projects; Assist w/groundskeeping of PCEI Nature Center; Assist w/Volunteer Coordination (lead individuals/groups in restoration & nature center projects); Assist in maintenance/organization of PCEI’s vehicles, tools, & equipment & composting program; Assist in maintenance/care of PCEI’s nursery, greenhouse, & native plant inventory; Assist w/Educational Programs (co-lead field experiences & classroom trips teaching basic ecology, water resources & naturalist skills. Training provided.). AMERICORPS REQUIREMENTS: Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident; Must possess high school diploma or equivalent; Must successfully pass fingerprint criminal history background check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Committed to serving needs of community & environment; has general interest in restoration/conservation efforts; knowledge of regional ecology & native vs. invasive plants; willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
