As a team member for ND Department of Health & Human Services, you will ensure people working toward recovery from substance use disorders have access to a high-quality healthcare system that meets them where they are, where the focus is on harm-reduction not prevention.
As an Addiction Counselor, you will provide individuals opportunity for recovery management so they can live and work independently in their home community. In a typical week of a licensed addiction counselor, you will complete assessments, level of care screenings, and assist in developing integrated service plans. You will provide individual, family, and group counseling. Crisis intervention and risk assessments are conducted in the office and at times in the community. Equally impactful is education and consultation provided to families, community, interns, and residents.
This is a leadership role that will be assist in building up the Substance Use Treatment program for NWHSC during the transition to a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. As the lead, part of the role is coordination of evidence-based practice, recognizing and implementing changes as related to the mission. Further, the agency is currently looking to integrate current practice with medication assisted therapy with our medical unit. You will work closely with other seasoned LACs in similar roles across the state for additional support. You will be the agency liaison for the NDTAAP consortium and provide local supervision of student LACs in an effort to boost recruitment and retention.

Face to face services may be provided in homes and communities; thus, some travel is required. For the right candidate, a hybrid schedule may be considered, meaning some services may be provided virtually, allowing you to work from home 1-2 days a week.
To be considered for the Addiction Counselor position, you are required to have a bachelor's degree in Addiction Counseling, Addiction Studies, Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology, AND have current licensure as an Addiction Counselor (LAC) by the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners. This position requires a valid driver's license and successful completion of the assigned defensive driving course during new-hire orientation.

Location: This position provides essential client services face to face and therefore the person in this position needs to be able to travel to meet clients at their location. A state fleet vehicle will be available for use when traveling to clients.
