General Description
The purpose of this position is to provide direct mental health counseling and crisis management to members of the campus community.

Essential Job Duties
  • Provide clinical services to UM Clients (students, faculty, and staff). Services include, but are not limited to, intake assessments, individual follow-up, crisis intervention, and case management.
  • Serve as a point of contact and provide consultation to faculty, staff, parents, and students expressing concerns regarding members of the University community exhibiting signs of distress.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate clinical and non-clinical documentation for University clients within departmental deadlines.
  • Maintain ethical, legal, and best practice standards of care consistent with applicable state and federal laws, UM Policies and Procedures, CS Operating Procedures, applicable code of the ethics (ACA).
  • Consult with CS Director about high risk clients and attend weekly clinical staffing.
  • Continue professional development through active memberships, presentations, and conference/training events to ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships across the UM campus and community by working effectively with on and off campus partners.
  • Serve on assigned Student Affairs and University committees.
  • Assist with University and Division of Enrollment and Student Affairs events/activities as needed and requested.
  • Assume other duties as the Counseling Services Director may assign.

Additional Duties

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to maintain a strict level of confidentiality in performing duties.
  • Working knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, and applicable confidentiality laws.
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques, ethical codes, and best practices.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations effectively.
  • Ability to work comfortably with diverse populations.
  • Understanding of human development and college student development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage large volume of information with a high degree of accuracy and detail.
  • Must be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Ability to learn and effectively use other software platforms (i.e. Titanium Scheduler, Banner, Maxient) utilized by the department.
  • Ability to work as a contributing member of the CS team.

Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
No experience necessary. One to two years of experience working with distressed individuals in a higher education setting preferred.
