Primary objective
As a Workforce Relations Officer, you will assist the Senior Workforce Relations Officers with the delivery of high quality workforce
services to client agencies to support them with the management of their human resource requirements.
Context statement
Workforce Services are delivered to client agencies under a centralised services model across a geographically and culturally diverse
environment. The Workforce Operations and Partnership team provides Human Resource (HR) business partner, recruitment services and
general HR support to client agencies. This vacancy is based within the HR Service Centre and Jira team responsible for managing the HR
Services Portal and the 1800 call HR inquiry line for employees of NT Police and NT Fire and Emergency Services; providing advice and
asstiance to clients as a first point of contact for general HR queries.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide client-focussed support and workforce relations services to assist NT Police and NT Fire and Emergency Services employees
manage their human resource needs.
2. Develop strong working relationships with client agencies to understand their workforce needs, and to provide accurate advice and
information on terms and conditions of employment, recruitment, HR policy and procedures.
3. Ensure compliance with Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS), NT Police or NT Fire Emergency Services legislative and delegated
requirements, enabling informed, evidence based decision making.
4. Provide mentoring, training, support and guidance to junior team members contributing to their development.
5. Participate and contribute to HR projects including the review, development and implementation of policies and procedures, to deliver
effective and consistent workforce relations services across the NTPS.
6. Provide timely and accurate advice to managers and employees on HR matters/recruitment, including identifying and resolving less
complex service delivery issues.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience and knowledge of operational recruitment and/or human resource management principles, with the ability to interpret
and apply legislation as it relates to HR management and processes.
2. High level of client focus and the demonstrated ability to apply empathy, exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
3. Highly motivated and results driven with the ability to learn quickly and adapt existing skills to the changing needs of the client, team
and branch.
4. Very good interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills, with a demonstrated ability to interact with managers and employees
at all levels and from diverse cultures.
5. Good written communication and organisational skills to draft correspondence, meet competing priorities and contribute to HR
projects.
6. Ability to mentor, train, support and provide guidance to team members.
7. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates DCDD values of being professional, accountable, honest, innovative and
respectful.
Desirable
1. Sound operational knowledge of NTPS Employment legislation and HR Management systems.
2. Sound understanding of employment legislation, processes and procedures applicable to NT Police and NT Fire and Emergency
Services
3. Relevant studies in human resources or a related field.
