Primary objective
Manage, lead and provide specialist technical input into the delivery of exploration grants programs, and lead delivery of NTGS’s external
engagement activities including promotion of the Territory’s geological resource potential to explorers and investors.
Context statement
The Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) is the custodian of knowledge and data on the Territory’s geology and resources and
undertakes activities to support and grow the minerals and petroleum exploration industry.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the Geophysics and Drilling Collaborations (GDC) grants program, including the application and assessment process, contract
management, industry liaison and ongoing implementation of the program.
2. Monitor and report on the GDC program, including liaison with industry regarding the status and progress of projects and assessing
compliance with contractual and other Government requirements.
3. Provide specialist advice to industry and investors on the Territory’s resource potential, exploration activity and initiatives to support
the exploration sector.
4. Develop and co-ordinate planning and implementation of NTGS’s promotional activities including participation in events, conferences,
and delegations to maximise promotion of the Territory’s geological resource potential and opportunities.
5. Create, publish and disseminate high-quality technical promotional publications and collateral that summarise industry activity,
support investment attraction activities and inform government, industry, investors and other stakeholders.
6. Manage, maintain and improve the Initiative website as a key information-sharing and promotional platform, ensuring currency and
accuracy of technical content and effective end-user experiences.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification in geoscience from a recognised university.
2. Substantial knowledge of the resources exploration sector, including a sound understanding of geoscientific, technical, policy, financial
and regulatory challenges and opportunities for the sector.
3. High level oral and written communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to convey technical information
to a diverse range of audiences.
4. Demonstrated organisational and project management skills including the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deliver outcomes.
5. Demonstrated ability in the use of GIS and relational databases.
6. Demonstrated ability in providing technical and procedural advice to internal and external stakeholders regarding grants programs or
similar initiatives.
7. High level knowledge and experience of governance and probity, especially relating to funding or grants programs.
Desirable
1. High-level knowledge of the geology and mineral and energy resources of the Northern Territory
2. Experience in the management and delivery of industry grants programs.
3. Extensive experience working within the exploration industry.
