Primary objective
The position will lead delivery of growth facilitating policies and activities necessary for sustainable development of the Territory’s minerals
industry. This involves provision of expert policy research, analysis, advice, and support on complex minerals industry policy matters and
their development.
Context statement
As part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, you will develop, analyse, implement, and evaluate agency and government policy initiatives.
The position will support sustainable minerals industry development and diversification, crucial for clean energy technologies, enhancing
the Territory’s investment competitiveness, and reinforcing the commitment to environmental, social and governance credentials.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the delivery of multiple competing projects, applying your expertise to a diverse range of policy areas within the minerals
industry.
2. Evaluate and identify solution options through research, evidence-based analysis, consultation, and review of political, environmental,
social, economic, technical, and legislative factors.
3. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and alliances across the agency, NTPS, other jurisdictions and the private
and community sectors to achieve outcomes.
4. Shape the development and ensure the effective implementation of robust policies aligned with whole of government priorities,
ensuring they meet both current and future needs.
5. Provide clear and objective policy advice and briefs (including Ministerial, Legislative Assembly and Cabinet submissions) that
recognise ministerial constraints and choices, anticipates emerging or sensitive issues.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, ensuring the right policy outcomes are delivered.
2. Strong track record of defining policy problems, identifying credible and appropriate research and expert advice from various sources,
and using it effectively to recommend solutions based on a structured approach to problem solving.
3. Comprehensive analytical skills and demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex problems using knowledge, facts, and data.
4. High level planning and organisational skills to manage competing priorities and instructions.
5. Demonstrated high-level oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to prepare briefings, reports and correspondence
on complex matters for a wide range of audiences in plain English.
6. Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to guide and develop staff, foster a collaborative team environment,
and drive strategic outcomes.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in project management, economics, law, or other relevant disciplines.
2. Demonstrated experience or knowledge related to the mining industry, including downstream manufacturing, project development
and marketing, and/or mining tenure or land access related regulations.
