Primary objective
As part of the central Freedom of Information (FOI) unit, assist in the management of NT Government client agencies’ responses to FOI
requests under the Information Act 2002 (NT), including receiving, administrative processing and coordination of requests, and liaising with
and providing advice to both applicants and agencies on the FOI process.
Context statement
The Freedom of Information (FOI) unit provides high quality, standardised and centralised advice, administrative support and processing
of FOI applications to a number of NTG agencies, in compliance with the Information Act 2002 (NT) .
Key duties and responsibilities
1. As part of a small specialised team, undertake the receipt, recording, processing, reporting and review of Freedom of Information
(FOI) applications on behalf of NT Government agencies, and prepare information for release, ensuring compliance with the
Information Act 2002 and other relevant legislation.
2. Provide support, including administrative support, to staff within the FOI unit to manage and handle FOI applications.
3. Contribute to the development and maintenance of team guidelines, procedures, templates, information statements and training
programs, to ensure best practice and compliance with the Information Act 2002 .
4. Contribute to effective monitoring and reporting mechanisms to inform regular and ad-hoc reporting requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. An understanding of the issues, principles and practices in the areas of Freedom of Information and correction of personal information,
or ability to quickly acquire same.
2. Experience in interpreting and applying legislation, and conducting research, or ability to quickly acquire same.
3. Demonstrated effectiveness in a highly sensitive, confidential, and complex environment with a high level of integrity, discretion and
confidentiality.
4. High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication and reporting skills.
5. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with the capacity to prioritise competing requirements, work under pressure
and meet critical deadlines.
6. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates the Department of Corporate and Digital Development (DCDD) values of
being professional, accountable, honest, innovative and respectful.
Desirable
1. Well-developed practical understanding of records management and information systems.
2. Training or qualifications in law, information management or similar discipline.
