Position Highlights
This position will perform general preventative/routine maintenance within a variety of trades areas; carpentry, plumbing, roofing, painting, drywall, concrete. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively, provide great customer service while having working knowledge of trades and maintenance.
The Phoenix Biosciences Core (PBC) Planning and Operations team handles campus services like security and access control, emergency planning, trip reduction, motor pool, and are the folks who keep the lights on, the water running, the grass green, and the buildings clean!

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensures that the university's physical spaces and resources are kept in a clean, attractive, orderly safe and healthy condition. Cleans and/or performs minor repairs on equipment under supervision. Assists in one or more trades with duties including event activity set-up, delivery of materials, and the clean-up of shop and work areas. Assists skilled trades employees with daily activities on assigned jobs. Measure distance using a tape measure or other measuring device.   • Maintains grounds, equipment, furniture and basic services that impact the the life of the University community.
  • Maintains all classroom and laboratories, libraries and all public spaces that may need any kind of small repairs or cleaning.
  • Performs general preventative maintenance like touching up paint, replacing broken light fixtures and other tasks that are not at the level of a tradescraft journeyman.
  • Performs finish work, such as replacing tile and carpet. Replacing or repairing drywall; prepares surfaces for painting, mixes and matches paint, paints using a spray gun, roller, or brush and applying caulking.
  • Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures, clears clogged water and sewer lines using snakes or other plumbing equipment or hand tools. Performs on site or shop repair of doors, cabinets, and other household wooden items using power tools.
  • Repairs roofs using shingles and cold patch material.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of the job content, safety requirements and practices.
  • Operate a mobile radio in accordance with university policies.
  • Moves heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) long distances (up to 50 ft).
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
  • Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This
    learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.
  • Climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
  • Work at heights up to 20 ft.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working has a handy person in basic maintenance of home or building repairs.
  • Working in the construction industry
  • Experience having a job working with different kinds of tools such as standard tool chest items of screwdrivers, pilers, hammers, wretches, etc.
