Job Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Helper is responsible for the maintenance of grounds within Anchorage School District facilities. The helper reports to a department lead and works in a location subject to contract language concerning shift location/bids. Maintenance employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. Job Requirements
The following are required:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of one year of experience within the past three years in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment.
- Experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance. Work experience must evidence ability to perform required tasks.
- Must possess a current Alaska driver's license.
- Must obtain an Alaska class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire. Must complete the general knowledge test within 14 days of hire.

The following are preferred:
- One year of experience in the field of grounds maintenance.
Essential Job Functions
Under the supervision of craft specialists, assists in tasks such as:
- Removing snow and sand from Anchorage School District parking lots, fire lanes, loading docks, and driveways.
- Performing landscaping duties, including using a riding lawn mower.
- Repairing and installing signs and fences.
- Maintaining and repairing concrete and asphalt.
- Working within established safety procedures.
- Working collaboratively and professionally with others.
- Routinely working at heights over 10 feet.
- Proficiently using appropriate computer applications for writing reports and other assigned areas of responsibility.
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
