The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Auburn University seeks creative, committed, and clear-minded professional(s) to fill temporary Application Evaluator position(s) in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The Application Evaluator (seasonal reader) will read student applications and make admission decisions for first year and transfer candidates. This is a seven-month temporary appointment where readers work an average of 30 hours a week from September through mid-December with an opportunity to work up to 40 hours depending on office needs. From January through mid-March, hours may be reduced to about 20 hours a week. Application Evaluators will have the same authority to commit the University to an admission decision that is currently exercised by Assistant and Associate Directors of Admissions.

Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

If you are looking for an employment opportunity, TES is a great way to showcase your professional skills and assist Auburn University while gaining valuable work experience within higher education.

AU students are not eligible for TES.

Essential Functions

  • Submit evaluations and recommendations regarding admissibility of applications to freshman- and transfer-admitting colleges and programs.
  • Write decision recommendations with clear rationales.
  • Orally present application review to team of individuals including senior leadership.
  • Complete application evaluations accurately and in a timely manner following a pre-determined applicant flow.

While seasonal application evaluators do not need to be located in the Auburn, AL area, they must be available for periodic daytime meetings in the Central Standard Time Zone. This is an hourly position, and the candidate must keep accurate time records.
Conflicts of Interest and Restrictions:
Given the sensitive nature of the admission selection process and to avoid any potential conflicts of interest:
  • Part-time readers may not be the parent, guardian, or immediate family member of a rising high school student who is planning to apply to college (to Auburn University or elsewhere). Exceptions can be made for part-time readers who have previously been employed within our office for at least one year.
  • A part-time reader cannot be employed by another university, any high school, or any organization that provides college counseling support of any type, nor can they be employed independently in work that provides personal college counseling support of any type.
  • Due to time commitment, a part-time reader cannot be a full-time employee of another company.
