Police Photo Enforcement Officer (Traffic Unit)

The Position


Are you detail-oriented and passionate about community safety? Join our team as a Police Photo Enforcement Officer in the Traffic Unit. In this role, you'll be responsible for monitoring and managing automated traffic enforcement systems, ensuring that our streets are safe for everyone. You'll work closely with law enforcement and city departments to review footage, issue citations, and maintain accurate records. This is a part-time (.75 FTE), non-exempt, Beaverton Police Association (BPA)- classified position. Shifts will be scheduled on weekdays between 8am and 5pm. There is one vacancy.

You will need to fill out your work history and respond to several supplemental questions. Responsibilities

  • Enforcement actions: Review and approve citations generated by the city’s photo enforcement systems, taking appropriate action against drivers exceeding speed or traffic regulations.
  • Court proceedings: Prepare and present traffic cases in court, testifying on enforcement actions related to photo enforcement.
  • Program monitoring: Track and assess the effectiveness of photo enforcement initiatives, ensuring objectives are met.
  • Subpoena management: Respond to and manage subpoenas for court appearances.
  • Training and evaluation: Participate in training, site evaluations, and performance assessments related to photo enforcement.
  • Ethical and respectful conduct: Act with respect and integrity, promoting diversity and inclusion in all workplace interactions, representing the city and upholding its vision and goals.
  • Safety: Develop and maintain safe work habits, following all safety policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties are outlined in the Intersection Photo Enforcement class specification.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; and
  • 21 years or older at time of hire; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing and special requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the city’s driving standards.
  • DPSST (Department of Public Safety Standards and Training) police officer certification, or if no longer in law enforcement, must have separated with DPSST police certification in good standing.
  • Ability to obtain LEDS (Law Enforcement Data Systems) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to pass reference checks and satisfy the requirements of a background check, including fingerprints.
  • Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen.

Compensation
Wage: $35.36 hourly
