The Position
Beaverton Police Department is looking for a detail-oriented person to join the Property and Evidence Unit within the Investigations Division. This unit handles the processing and safe storage of evidence and property, following legal standards. This work directly supports investigations, protects public property, and maintains the integrity of sensitive items.
As a Property and Evidence Control Specialist, you’ll work with a small and collaborative team to prepare evidence for transfer to forensics lab, court, disposal, or other locations. You will conduct research, prepare reports, manage data entry, and maintain records. This role also involves interacting with the public via phone, email, and in person. You may be called to the field to assist with packaging evidence or need to testify in court regarding the chain of evidence. This role involves handling confidential, sensitive, and sometimes graphic or trauma-related materials.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, Beaverton Police Association (BPA)- classified position. The schedule will be Monday-Friday, with every other Monday or Friday off, depending on seniority shift bid. Hours are typically 6am-3pm or 7am-4pm. There is one vacancy.

Responsibilities
- Receive, inventory, store, maintain and package police evidence/property retrieved from officer evidence lockers and databases in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Prepare and process packages that require special handline or outside services.
- Complete and maintain documents, records, and reports required for retrieving, storing, and tracking police evidence and property. This includes entering data into the computer system, documenting crime lab letters and crime detection numbers, and confirming Right of Discovery for attorneys.
- Prepare property and evidence for disposition, including preparing and distributing Officer Disposition Requests and contacting courts and district attorneys for case dispositions.
- Testify in court regarding the preservation of the chain of evidence.
- Research and respond to questions about property and evidence via phone and in writing. Conduct property room audits and inventories.
- Deliver and retrieve evidence from locations outside than the police department.
- Support the department’s community-oriented policing philosophy.
- Participate in section operational processes including procedure development and implementation.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; and
- Two years of experience in a criminal justice environment; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing and special requirements
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the city’s driving standards.
- Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check, including fingerprints.
- Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen.
- Certified Property and Evidence Specialist (CPES) certification required within 2 years of hire.

Compensation
Wage range: $26.98 - $36.16 hourly
Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
