DUTIES: Provide direct oversight over multiple Parks Department projects; including bid document development, bid awarding, budget and monitoring project until project completion. Serve as BGPR Safety Liaison to City of Bowling Green Risk Management. Serves as secretary on BGPR Safety Committee and Parks Advisory Board. Monitors BGPR safety program and addresses needs proactively. Implementation of Master Plan including monthly updates to BGPR Director. Develops routine public interaction opportunities (surveys, community meetings etc.) towards yearly Master Plan revisions. Overseeing Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Accreditation process and future re-accreditation process. Plan and illustrate proposed new/renovated park sites, evaluate potential sites, determine opportunities and limitations, and recommend site development that will best meet the needs, interests and concerns of the community. Prepares and directs the preparation of administrative reports, grant applications, and other required paperwork. Develops, prepares, reviews, and monitors departmental annual operating and capital improvement budgets; develops short-and long-term goals and objectives for the Department. Performs routine site visits for work projects to ensure compliance and develop work orders. Attends senior management meetings and coordinates Parks Advisory Board meetings, to coordinate monthly work projects and programs; analyzes departmental services to ensure programs are consistent with needs of citizens. Confers and cooperates with governmental agencies and civic and neighborhood groups regarding recreational needs and requirements; directs the publicizing of programs to ensure maximum participation; makes presentations to community groups. Attends local, state, and national conferences and workshops to keep abreast of latest trends and developments in Parks and Recreation, and to improve professional skills.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Public Administration (or related field), with at least two years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Additional training/certification is required such as basic First Aid and CPR. Must be able to attain Certified Parks and Recreational Profession with first 12 months of employment. A valid Driver’s License is required.
SALARY: Grade G13; $74,708 yr. ($35.91/hr.); plus full benefit package
WORK HOURS: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday; with occasional after work hours required
