JOB
Under the general supervision of the Environmental Program Manager, the Environmental Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing outreach initiatives relative to environmental and water safety. An employee manages the coordination and logistics of planning and execution of various outreach environmental programs and presentations. The work involves the implementing of departmental messaging; projecting development and oversight; organizing and participating in community and special events; conducting school visits and coordinating inter-agency meetings in order to identify and pursue shared objectives.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Creates, develops, plans and implements environmental outreach initiatives and education information in support of the Department's mission.Builds the profile of the Department and ensures accuracy of information with a variety of media outlets, including web-based information and advertising, and in collaboration with the Department's Media Relations Coordinator. Increases the Division's use of social media in addition to developing information for website and blogs.Oversees the production of various promotional publications, flyers and newsletters. Maintains publications therefrom.Provides research, planning, writing, posting and reporting for social media activities.Identifies new and emerging challenges, opportunities and knowledge gaps; develops materials and approaches to address subjects.Coordinates educational and promotional outreach projects for established annual programs.Coordinates in-house activities, including set-up of internal staff training opportunities and the sharing of materials within the Department to relevant Divisions.Collaborates and provides support to other public and private outreach organizations and individuals for engaging territorial initiatives.Conducts public speaking engagements at area schools and to other interested public groups.Provides feedback on outreach events/activities to the program manager and make recommendations accordingly.Performs other related work as assigned and as required to achieve the objective of the agency's mission.

FACTOR 1 -- Knowledge Required by the Position Knowledge of natural and environmental processes, sustainability issues and resiliency.Knowledge of environmental and zoning laws of the Virgin Islands.Knowledge of social media platforms -Facebook, You Tube, Twitter, Linkedin.Skill in public relations strategic planning, writing and implementation.Advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).Ability to work well independently, work under pressure. and with flexibility to meet deadlines and adjust to unforeseen priorities.Excellent written and oral communication skills. customer focused, team player.FACTOR 2 -- Supervisory Controls The Environmental Outreach Coordinator reports to the Environmental Program Manager for guidance regarding the assignment of projects, reports and deadlines.FACTOR 3 - Guidelines Guidelines include local and federal laws, rules and regulations and policies and departmental standard operating procedures. The guidelines are generally applicable and require little interpretation. When instructions do not apply, the issue is referred to the supervisor.FACTOR 4 -- Complexity The assignment involves the development, maintenance, coordination and implementation of environmental outreach programs. An employee must create an environmental outreach plan to connect with the community and foster relationships among stakeholders. He/she is expected to use considerable judgment in managing the territory's environmental initiatives completing tasks.FACTOR 5 - scope and Effect The purpose of the work is to promote environmental activities and design initiatives to network with the community, ensuring year round presence and education.Environmental Outreach Coordinator FACTOR 6 -- Personal Contacts Contacts are co-workers, employees from other departments, agency heads and school officials.FACTOR 7 -- Purpose of Contacts The purpose is to schedule and deliver activities and to analyze and evaluate how various programs are operating.FACTOR 8 - Physical Demands Standing, walking, bending and driving is required as this position requires community engagement.FACTOR 9 -- Work Environment Some work is performed in an office setting, however, some field work is necessary. Some activities are held outdoors and some after-hours and/or weekend activities may be required.
