JOB
The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Clerk of Court in the Naknek Trial Court (range 12). Under general supervision of the Third District Rural Court Administrator, the incumbent will serve as manager of clerical operations in the court and assist other area courts as necessary. * Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency may receive consideration for advance step placement. * CLICK HERE FOR A MESSAGE FROM ONE OF OUR RETIRED CHIEF JUSTICES! TRIAL COURT MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORTProvide professional technical support, leadership, and supervision of the various functions of the clerk's office including processing criminal, civil, small claims, minor offense, probate, and children's cases;Assure efficient case flow management, integrity of court records, files, and accounts; effective jury management, in-court, in-court procedures, front counter accuracy, collection and proper disbursement of fines, restitution, and other funds;Serve as jury clerk and Courtroom Judicial Assistant as needed;Review statutes, bills, rules, codes, policies and procedures and apply them as required; work closely with the Area Court Administrator (ACA) and judges to implement any new procedures;Process marriage certificates and license applications; compile monthly report for Bureau of Vital Statistics; enter defaults and default judgments;Work closely with the Dillingham and Unalaska courts to ensure coverage of essential operations and calendars; occasionally assist other Third District rural courts when needed.ACCOUNTING AND BOOKKEEPINGBalance cash ledger and journal for trust fund; make deposits, run and review reports working closely with the Administrative Accounting office;Authorize checks to be issued and ensure distribution of monies in a timely manner; approve juror meal costs.EXTERNAL PUBLIC RELATIONS AND SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTSReceive and respond to complaints from the general public, parties, attorneys, judges, and others regarding the court; conduct investigations as necessary to resolve problems; with the judge, serve as liaison for the court with local public agencies and organizations on issues of mutual concern; Attend to matters assigned by the ACA, Presiding Judge, or other judicial officers, including personnel matters, special projects and committees, research, and other requests for information and assistance;Operate, troubleshoot, and update computer system and records; assure data is entered correctly; work closely with Information Services on technology-related matters;Orient visitors to the court; update manuals and other research materials; receive and handle most facility-related matters; coordinate with the ACA and Facilities when problems arise;Prepare and submit annual budget for the court to the ACA; recommend requests for supplies and equipment to assure court needs for resources are met. Work Hours Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of general clerical, office or retail work experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net). OR Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
