Clerk of Court


The Yakutat District Court of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is accepting applications for a Clerk of Court to provide clerical support in Yakutat with secondary remote coverage for Haines, Hoonah, Skagway, and Juneau, including weekend arraignments.


This position is scheduled to work 30 hours per week. Regular job duties will include the following:
  • Greet and assist customers at the front counter and on the telephone.
  • Answer general questions, perform copy requests, and process marriage license applications.
  • Accept filings, perform notary public duties, and perform record searches.
  • Accept and receipt filing fees, fine payments, bail, restitution, and other fees.
  • Receive and assign case numbers for civil and small claims cases.
  • Set up criminal, minor offense, civil and small claims cases.
  • Issue summons for civil and small claims cases and process all documents filed.
  • Prepare weekly bank deposits and reconciliation reports.
  • Serve as an in-court clerk as necessary.
  • Maintain court supplies and forms; place orders as needed and stock all items; update manuals as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Ability to organize high-priority tasks.
  • Experience performing data entry while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Work Hours
This position is currently scheduled to work 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day. The work schedule will be coordinated in consultation between the hiring supervisor and the selected applicant.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of general clerical, office or retail work experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

OR

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

KEYBOARDING CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) to your application that verifies your keyboarding speed of 40 wpm or higher (net). Online keyboarding tests (often at no cost) are accepted with a valid website address noted on the document. Acceptable websites include: www.ratatype.com and www.typingtest.com.

WORK HISTORY
If using work experience not already documented in your application, provide the employer’s name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full or part-time. Applications will be reviewed to determine if the responses are supported and Minimum Qualifications are clearly met. If they are not, the applicant will not advance to the interview and selection phase of the recruitment.

EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications, you must fill in the Education and Training section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degree Obtained field. Copies of academic transcripts will be required at time of interview.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately, we cannot always interview all applicants. If your application is considered "not qualified," you will be sent a notice within two weeks after the closing date for this recruitment.
