Business Manager/Administrative Assistant This Business Manager is a dynamic, high-impact role that directly supports the chair and drives the department's success! As the go-to person for all administrative functions, you'll oversee and optimize key operations that empower faculty and students to thrive in their academic and research pursuits. From managing financials and accounting to streamlining research computing, office operations, advisement, and course administration, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the department's mission is realized. You'll lead a dedicated team of staff and students, making this position a central hub of innovation, efficiency, and collaboration! What you'll do in this position:
Oversee business operations, implement efficient processes, and analyze department resource use in collaboration with leadership and the business office.
Gather faculty feedback, identify improvement areas, and manage changes.
Supervise office staff, manage space allocation, and support departmental growth and mentoring opportunities. Serve as the primary contact for resources, track student progress, assist with course advisement, and manage teaching assistant recruitment.
Manage computing resources, assist with external funding submissions, and evaluate IT systems.
Provide strategic financial advice, manage department budgets, and liaise with the business office, vendors, and auditors.
Approve purchases, assist with travel plans, and oversee promotional expenses.
Supervise student accountants, track financial documents, and ensure proper documentation for purchases and travel.
Manage hiring and contracts for student workers and graduate students.
Engage alumni, develop recruitment strategies, and foster company partnerships for capstone courses.
Coordinate external communications, including newsletters, social media, and website updates. Manage promotional materials, vendor relationships, and event coordination, ensuring branding compliance.

2 years of experience in customer service
BS in a Business-related field with 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience should demonstrate leadership and breadth of business operations (accounting, strategic HR, marketing, and computing)
Preferred
MBA or MPA with 5 years of experience demonstrating leadership and breadth of business operations (accounting, strategic HR, marketing, and computing).
Human Resource experience, particularly working in a supervisory role with peers having different areas of expertise and with students
Experience working with BYU processes
Background or knowledge of work performed in an academic setting
Office operation with excellent customer service
Excellent communication skills both interpersonal and written
Excellent leadership and training skills to communicate effectively, train personnel and keep staff enthusiastic and motivated.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills, including the ability to work well with faculty and students. Understanding of accounting principles and practices in a higher education setting.
Must be able to adapt well to change while working in a variety of situations and possess an ability to generate creative solutions to problems.
Demonstrated ability to organize work tasks and projects independently, according to diverse priorities to meet deadlines and achieve high quality work outcomes.
Ability to understand broad strategic vision of the department.
Ability to see the big picture and identify potential problems and trends.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and consult, negotiate, and provide authoritative information and advice on a range of topics to internal and external customers, both orally and in writing.
Possess analytical skills to generate viable options and develop solutions to workplace issues and take responsibility for outcomes. Effective management skills and the ability to communicate financial results well, both verbally and in writing.
The ability to create processes to offer mentored experiences for students.
Mature judgement and the ability to work constructively and pleasantly with people. Decision making and delegation skills.
