Career Advancement Manager This position helps students in the College of Humanities with their career and life plan, connect with their professional network and opportunities, and achieve their desired post-graduation outcomes. This position works closely with faculty and staff in assigned departments to create and implement customized services and offerings which effectively support students in achieving their plans. This position regularly engages with industry professionals to maintain knowledge of the market and opportunities. Teaching, advising, and facilitating employer connections are all important aspects of this job.
What you'll do in this position: 1. Empower students to identify and achieve desired career outcomes
Guide students in utilizing practices of effective job search strategies
Counsel students to employ principles of professional communication while interviewing and networking
Advise students regarding use of best-practices in preparing professional documents such as resumes, cover letters, reference pages, and thank you notes
Teach courses relevant to career success
Support students in employing factors of effective career opportunity evaluation
Facilitate connections between students and employer
2. Optimize employer engagement by developing, maintaining, and enhancing employer relationships with students, alumni, and faculty in assigned area
Cultivate relationships with priority organizations through strategic recruiting plans
Facilitate meaningful networking and mentoring opportunities with employers to actively recruit BYU students and to provide co-curricular career opportunities
Conduct and participate in strategic off-campus employer outreach in collaboration with university colleagues
3. Be a leader of career advancement at BYU and coordinate career initiatives with external partners
Maintain a working knowledge of career outcomes for assigned area, university- and industry-wide
Coordinate and collaborate services with other regional and CES institutions relative to assigned area
Help faculty and staff to incorporate career development as a component of their academic programs and services
What qualifies you for this role: Required
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
Master's degree
3+ years professional work experience in roles requiring knowledge, skills, or abilities gained from a college education
Preferred
5+ years professional work experience in roles applying knowledge, skills, or abilities gained from a Liberal Arts education
Professional work experience in higher education, career teaching, or career advising college students
Demonstrated skill in and enthusiasm for working with students
Build relationships and collaborate with team, colleagues, faculty, administration, staff, and employers both on and off campus
Generous approach in working with others
Take initiative to achieve outcomes with little supervision
Creative problem-solving; find new ways to achieve desired outcomes
Professional, friendly, and responsive customer-service orientation
