Senior Rewire (Auto Electrician) – Toyota Specialist
JOB PURPOSE: The Senior Rewire shall be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the electrical systems of Toyota vehicles in a fleet. This role involves conducting complex electrical rewiring, troubleshooting, and ensuring that all vehicle electrical components function efficiently. The specialist will also oversee junior electricians and ensure that work is performed to high standards of safety and quality. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: · Diagnose electrical faults in Toyota cars, including wiring, lighting, sensors, alternators, starters, and computerized systems .• Use specialized diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues in vehicle electrical systems.
Perform complete or partial rewiring of Toyota vehicles as needed.
Install and configure electrical components such as control units, alarms, and other accessories.
Repair or replace defective electrical parts, including wiring harnesses, ignition systems, fuses, switches, and relays.
Perform preventative maintenance on the electrical systems of the fleet.
Conduct thorough inspections of vehicle electrical systems to ensure they are functioning correctly.
Test vehicle systems after repairs to ensure problems are resolved and components are operating safely.
Utilize diagnostic equipment and tools such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, and oscilloscopes for testing vehicle electrical systems.
Verify that new installations and repairs comply with vehicle specifications and electrical safety standards.
Lead a team of junior electricians in conducting repairs, providing guidance, and overseeing the quality of their work.
Delegate tasks and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of repairs.
Support fleet management by maintaining comprehensive electrical records for each Toyota vehicle in the fleet.
Coordinate with fleet managers to schedule regular maintenance and repairs, minimizing vehicle downtime.
Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure the availability of necessary electrical parts and supplies.
Keep an updated inventory of electrical components and tools for efficient repair operations.
Ensure that all electrical repairs and installations meet industry safety standards and comply with local regulations.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: ·Diploma or Certificate in Automotive Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
Specialized training or certification in Toyota electrical systems is highly preferred.
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience as an auto electrician, with at least 2 years working with Toyota vehicles.
Experience working in a fleet maintenance environment is a strong advantage.• Expertise in Toyota electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment used for testing vehicle electrical components.
Strong understanding of modern vehicle electronics, including CAN bus systems, ECUs, and OBD-II diagnostics.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve complex electrical issues.
High attention to detail, particularly when working with intricate wiring systems and diagnosing faults.
In-depth knowledge of Toyota-specific electrical systems and components, including hybrid models.
Effective communication skills to liaise with fleet managers, team members, and clients.
Ability to work in confined spaces, bend, lift, and handle tools for extended periods.
