ABOUT THE BRANCH
The Secure Communications Branch develops and supports the secure telecommunications network for Australian Government including the design, deployment and maintenance of ICT infrastructure to support the Ministry and other whole of government initiatives. The Branch also manages and operates the server and network infrastructure that hosts the core services and line of business applications that fulfil the department’s output objectives.
The Branch is responsible for providing and managing:
- The Ministerial Communications Network (MCN) which provides secure telecommunication services to all Ministers, Parliamentary Offices, and Agency Heads in Parliament House and throughout Australia
- The National Tele Presence System (NTS) which provides secure video conferencing facilities at Australian Government offices, Parliament House and the offices of Premiers and Chief Ministers in every state and territory
- Secure Wide Area Network (WAN) communications services for Australian Government departments with interstate communications requirements
- Communications support to whole of government functions such as CHOGM, APEC, G20 and Continuity of Government initiatives.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Technical Officer within Secure Communications, you will work in a small team that builds, deploys, maintains and carries out fault repairs on the Ministerial Communications Network (MCN) and National Tele Presence System (NTS) client devices.
You will be responsible for assisting the team with installing and maintaining Routers and Switches, Tele Presence Devices and maintaining the integrity of the MCN secure network, this includes trouble-shooting and problem resolution. Additionally, you will be required to assist the logistics manager with day-to-day management of the stores room to ensure quality end-to-end asset management.
Secure Communications services are located all over Australia in capital cities and regional locations. As the APS3 Technical Officer you maybe required to travel domestically to assist with installing and maintaining the MCN and NTS equipment, as well as represent the Department to other Government organisations.
In addition to day-to-day operations, you will also assist the projects team with the deployment of new services and capabilities.
