  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $139,787 to $161,663 + super

The Water Group is currently seeking to appoint a Manager, Cabinet and Information Services on a temporary part-time basis to 30 September 2026.
The Manager, Cabinet and Information Services leads the development and delivery of the Water Group’s Cabinet work program, facilitates internal and external consultation and collaboration, and ensures timely, coordinated responses to a wide range of policy and information requests.
About You
The role will manage, coordinate and assist Water Group project and policy teams in the development and delivery of Water Group’s Cabinet work program and other Ministerial works to ensure compliance with governance and quality requirements of Cabinet and other work.
You will manage engagement with Executive, ministerial staff and senior line and central agency staff to understand and respond to the Government’s and the Minister’s policy directions and steward policies through the processes of Cabinet and Parliament. This involves anticipating issues, consequences and managing changes in delivery strategies and timelines across Water’s Cabinet work program. As well as providing effective and accurate policy advice and recommendations on a range of issues relevant to the Water Group in the high-pressure and fast-moving context of Cabinet and Parliamentary processes.
Key accountabilities include:
  • Analyse, review and coordinate Water Group comments and input to Cabinet submissions from other areas of the department and external agencies.
  • Represent the department at meetings and consultations with wider Government and other key stakeholders, forging strategic relationships to gain effective input and identify concerns to identify issues relating to the development of Cabinet submissions.
  • Manage, coordinate and advise on Water Group responses to information access requests such as Government Information (Public Access) process and Third-Party Consultations, and support Standing Order 52 requests and determine and facilitate approvals, for whole of government submissions to Parliamentary, Commonwealth and other inquiries and reviews.
  • Manage and coach a small team, developing staff professionally and utilising their skills effectively to ensure agreed outcomes are achieved. Provide issues management and support, responding to emerging and sensitive issues to ensure effective resolution with minimal risk to the Water Group and the Department.

Key Knowledge & Experience
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing strategic policy in challenging and complex environments.
  • Detailed knowledge of the machinery of Government, including Cabinet, Parliament and legislative processes and the ability to understand and interpret a wide variety of legislation.
  • Expertise in policy development, implementation and review.

Essential Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in public sector administration, policy or related discipline and/or equivalent experience in the successful implementation of public sector directives, initiatives and policies.
