Primary objective
To provide a high level of customer service and support across all functions of the Public Guardian and Trustee including the
provision of information relating to guardianship, financial and trust management, advance personal planning, estate
administration and will making/storage services.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Engage with stakeholders and service providers, undertake inquiries and collect documentary evidence with regard to
applications for adult guardianship under the Guardianship of Adults Act 2016 .
2. Facilitate the Public Guardian and Trustee’s provision of information and detailed reports to the Northern Territory Civil
and Administrative Tribunal (NTCAT) including attendance at Hearings.
3. Assist in the administration of financial trusts and estates of deceased persons, including the identification of
beneficiaries and assets, the realisation of assets, management of assets, asset liquidation and estate distribution.
4. Assist in the development of legal documents including applications for guardianship, probate, letters of administration,
wills, Advanced Personal Plans and similar.
5. Respond positively to change with a commitment to ongoing improvement and professional development, act
professionally at all times and operate within the boundaries of agreed policies and procedures.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Knowledge and understanding of guardianship and trustee activities, including trust management, estate administration,
drafting of wills and Advance Personal Plans or ability to acquire this knowledge quickly.
2. Demonstrated experience working within legislative frameworks, policies and standards particularly in areas related to
disability, seniors/aged care and/or financial management.
3. Effective communication and negotiation skills with the ability to engage professionally with people from diverse
backgrounds and handle customer interactions sensitively and tactfully.
4. Demonstrated financial management, time management and organisational skills, including task prioritisation,
adaptability to changing demands and maintaining accurate records with attention to detail.
5. Ability to conduct enquiries and analyse verbal and written information, handle confidential information responsibly,
and utilise relevant computer systems efficiently, including Microsoft Office, financial management, trust accounting
and/or client management databases.
6. Excellent verbal and written communications skills including the preparation of complex formal reports.
7. Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring high levels of customer
service.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in law, accounting, financial management, human services, business management or related field
2. Certificate IV (Government) Investigation, Training and Assessment or other relevant expert field
