Job Summary: The Specialty Care Nurse Manager oversees the overall operations of the Nursing Division programs that provide services in urgent care, general surgery, orthopedics, cancer care and infusions, and acute substance use treatment. This role will directly supervise the program leads and ensures that each program has the resources, training, and competency to achieve the goals of the division, department, and organization. Functions include; management of operational efficiency, leadership to develop and maintain the highest level of customer service for the beneficiaries of Tanana Chiefs Conference Health Services; and advancement of initiatives to improve quality of care.

Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.

Essential Functions

Representative Duties:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the job incumbent will be assigned the following representative duties:

1. Personnel Management
a. Recruits program and team leads. Interviews, hires, and guides orientation of new employees. Evaluates job performance and provides support for continuing professional development.
b. Ensures that their direct reports provide appropriate and effective leadership for program staff consistent with TCC policies.

2. Leadership and Development
a. Provides leadership in communicating and executing on organizational goals and objectives.
b. Provide guidance and support to program leads to advance process improvements. Informs leadership of program developments and ensures that activities are in alignment with the goals and standards of the organization.
c. Works with leaders in other departments and divisions to ensure that shared responsibilities and issues of mutual concern are managed collaboratively.

3. Operations
a. Evaluates the support needed by program leads and staff by conducting regular leadership rounds.
b. Supports program leads in day to day operations by evaluating program needs and coordinating access to resources.
c. Evaluates program success on the basis of customer feedback, metrics of productivity, and quality indicators.

4. Quality and Compliance
a. Ensures that documentation of patient care meets current standards in collaboration with program leads.
b. Ensures programs and activities meet the standards of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care (AAAHC), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
c. Work closely with TCC Clinical Quality Management to identify, monitor, and interpret quality data gathered by programs.
d. Receives patient and employee safety incident reports and conducts investigations or delegates responsibility to appropriate program leads. Ensures organization awareness of patient and employee safety trends and areas of risk.
e. May be delegated responsibility for writing, revising, or updating TCC policies related to the operations of their programs.

5. Financial
a. Collaborates with leadership to formulate budget requests to achieve program objective.
b. Assists leadership with tracking of expenditures.
c. Identifies opportunities for revenue generation within their programs.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

2. Required to travel throughout the TCC region by automobile, small plane, or boat.

Minimum Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications: Incumbents may meet minimum qualifications for this position with the following combinations of education, training, and experience.

1. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Master’s degree preferred.

2. Five years’ experience in a leadership role with supervisory responsibility preferred, or an equivalent combination of formal or informal leadership experiences, education, and training.

3. Preference for certification in healthcare leadership and management.

4. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.

5. Must pass background check pursuant to Federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska background check.

6. Current BLS or ability to obtain or renew prior to beginning work.

7. Experience working with Alaska Native peoples or cross-cultural experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Excellent leadership and management skills.

2. Knowledge of performance improvement science and processes.

3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Supervision:
This position has supervisory responsibility.

Physical demands: This position is mostly sedentary with extended periods sitting at a desk/computer workstation. Job incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must be able to work efficiently in a busy and sometimes stressful environment. Shared office space in a clinical setting.

Work environment:
Work is performed in a clinic setting responsible for treating patients with a wide variety of medical problems. The employee may be exposed to communicable disease during performance of duties. Job incumbent may be required to travel to remote locations by vehicle, small plane, boat or alternate means of transportation.
