Position Highlights
Planning & Operations is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for learning, research, and work through the highest quality trained security personnel. As an unarmed Security Guard, it is your job to assist in maintaining the safety and security of students, staff, faculty, all other visitors, as well as assist in the general safekeeping of the facilities and grounds. The Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC) Planning and Operations team handles campus services such as security, emergency preparedness, maintenance, custodial, motor pool, and utilities. Due to the nature of our educational environment and commitment to the safety of campus, this position will be expected to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
The Campus is a 30-acre, urban medical and bioscience campus with more than 1.7 million square-feet of biomedical-related research, academic, and clinical facilities with plans for more. It is the only site where you will find all 3 of Arizona’s public universities in one location conducting and collaborating in research.

Duties & Responsibilities
Actively monitors for campus safety and compliance:
  • Perform foot patrols of the grounds of the campus as well as the interior of all buildings.
  • Monitors CCTV for campus needs, to include suspicious behavior, presence of vendors or deliveries, other needs.
  • Performs safety equipment inspections.
  • Provides door lock and unlock services at scheduled times or as needed.
  • Submits maintenance work orders to remedy hazards or for items in need of repair.
  • Provides security services for events on campus.
Perform customer service and concierge services to the campus:
  • Greet, welcome, and provide exceptional customer service to all.
  • Provide way-finding and other general informational needs.
  • Provide information in a professionally courteous manner to all University staff, faculty, students, vendors, and visitors.
  • Perform door assists and other security related escorts on campus.
Maintains data logs to track:
  • Visitors to campus.
  • Lost & Found item inventory.
  • Monthly Security statistics.
  • Daily pass downs.
  • Incident Reports.
Responds to emergency alarms or other urgent security services including:
  • Building system alarms (fire, mechanical).
  • Blue phone activations & other panic alarms.
  • Performs other tasks within the scope, role, and capabilities of the Security Guard as assigned by the Emergency Preparedness Planner or others in the Planning & Operations chain of command.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different groups/individuals both in person and electronically.
  • Skills to navigate basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office products and the Internet.
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness and be attentive to detail.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner.
  • Ability to maintain highest levels of professionalism and integrity at all times.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques and strategies.
    Ability to succeed in a team environment as well as when working alone.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required.
  • Prior work experience not required.
  • Due to the nature of our educational environment and commitment to the safety of campus, this position will be expected to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims.
