    FLSA STATUS: Exempt

    EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 230 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by KCSBOE

    SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Kanawha County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level

    EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and KCS G48A.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1) Must hold a valid teaching license.
    2) Minimum of five years of teaching experience.
    3) 3 years of event planning experience preferred.
    4) Hold or willing to obtain VEX Educator Certifications (VEX IQ and VEX VRC), preferred.

    JOB SUMMARY: To develop, train, and supervise problem based and competition based learning specialized in STEM curricular/extracurricular activities for use in all KCS facilities. This includes monitoring of student achievement data and create a needs assessment for student growth and improvement. Work with a variety of software and hardware systems related to Robotics Competition to include live-steam, tournament operational software, OBS Studio, and VEXcode. Working cooperatively with the KCS personnel (including principals, teachers, school staff, community members, and students) to plan, develop and monitor a variety implementation models

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Obtain and organize resources; prepare venues; and run operational equipment/administrative software for official VEX robotics competitions.
    • Establish and execute VEX IQ/EDR league events, and tournament operations.
    • Identify and obtain corporate sponsorships, along with additional revenue sources, to supplement costs of material purchases.
    • Develop and facilitate curriculum adoption procedures.
    • Integrate VEX’s various robotics programs into multiple scheduling parameters that fit individual schools’ capabilities/needs.
    • Coordinate with site instructors on regional, state, world qualification requirements; competition specifications, software (VCS, ROBOTC, Mod Kit, VEX Utilitiy, VEX Virtual World) capabilities; curriculum options; professional development opportunities; transportation procedures.
    • Understand the limitations and effects of different operating systems on educators’ abilities to utilize VEX related programs.
    • Identify additional educational resources that are compatible with VEX programs. (SNAPCAD, AUTODESK, Robot MESH, Robot Virtual Worlds, etc.)
    • Possess knowledge of how KCS’s apple i Pad capabilities can be maximized with the various VEX platforms.
    • Identify and cultivate relationships with external educational outreach programs that can provide additional support toward program development.
    • Identify budget needs and develop a comprehensive multiphase outlook that provides adequate support for growing and additional VEX related programs.
    • Obtain program certifications necessary to conduct educator professional development sessions.
    • Possess in-depth knowledge of multiple curriculum offerings; such as: VEX’s free IQ/EDR curriculums, SNAPCAD, Robomatter’s introduction to programming VEX IQ and EDR video trainer, and the multiple Project Lead the Way programs.
    • Possess in-depth understanding of the transition/implementation process for VRC’s V5 hardware platform.
    • Possess operational knowledge of progress monitoring tools; including CSTEM network and intelitek resources.
    • Troubleshooting/problem solving in ROBOTC, VEX tournament manager, and Mod Kit software systems.
    • Pair curriculum options with industry certification opportunities for students at the secondary level.
    • Insert VEX materials as a supplemental resource into existing course pathways in order to maximize student experiences/outcomes.
    • Coordinate with communications staff, along with other marketing mediums, to highlight program effectiveness, and raise public awareness.
    • Facilitate site/district downloads with technology staff members.
    • Work with WVSSAC staff, and systems, that could help with any possible future sports implementation of robotics programs.
    • Evaluating program, along with program personnel, to help identify program improvement areas.
    • Research, Create, and provide various student / teacher Learning Opportunities.
    • Identify future professional development considerations
    • Pursue and obtain private/public partnerships that can develop and grow the various programs under your supervision
    • Develop and create curriculum maps, and documentation to assist teachers with content delivery. Coordinate with site staff and develop trouble shooting progressions for team / classroom issues.
    • Work with school site administration with conducting visits and teacher observation
    • Assist with coordinating team travel needs
    • Communicate with and provide materials and information for the communications director to raise public awareness of program achievements
    • Other duties as assigned

Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 d B).
