Job Responsibilities - you knew they were coming!
  • Assess patient performance and ability to engage in activities affecting health and well-being
  • Provide physician prescribed occupational therapy under a plan of care established by the OT
  • Consult with OT regarding any changes in treatment
  • Improve or minimize residual physical disabilities of the patient
  • Participate with all other healthcare personnel in patient care planning
  • Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Teach patients new ways of approaching tasks and educate on how to break down activities into achievable components
  • Assess patient homes and other environments to advise on alterations applicable to their needs and capabilities
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and train on equipment use
  • Guide and educate family members and caregivers as needed
  • Observe, note, and report on progress of long and short-term treatment goals
  • Participate in QAPI and in-service programs as assigned
  • Attend all patient care conferences as scheduled

Skills and Qualifications - we know you have them!

  • Graduate from a two-year college level program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association
  • Current COTA license in the state of practice
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a COTA preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate and caring attitude among different types of personalities
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgement
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record and reliable automobile
  • Proof of current automobile insurance
  • Criminal background check clearance/fingerprint clearance
  • Negative TB test
  • Current CPR certification
Physical Requirements - to strengthen others!
Requires considerable physical effort most of the day including kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, climbing, walking, exposure to temperature and humidity changes and maximal assist in lifting and/or transferring of a 100-pound patient. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use appropriate adaptive devices that will enable senses to function at a level required to meet essential duties of this position.
Mental Requirements - you went to school for this!
Must be able to work independently, make judgments based on assessments and data available and act accordingly. Must be flexible, innovative and possess good interpersonal skills. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability.
Working Environment - there will be snacks!
Works indoors in agency office and patient homes/care facilities; travel to and from patients is required. Must be able to tolerate exposure to elements, including, but not limited to the following: odors, blood, body fluids and excrements, adverse environmental conditions and hazardous materials.
