The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a permanent Library & Archives Paraprofessional 4 at the Washington Corrections Center.

Washington Corrections Center is located 35 miles west of Olympia, the state capital. WCC is the Reception and Diagnostic Center, a close-custody facility with the primary responsibility to process, test, and classify all adult male incarcerated individuals sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has seven living units and houses 1,700 incarcerated individuals. There are about 500 incarcerated individuals screened and assessed each month. WCC is also the major hub for transfer of incarcerated individuals to and from facilities throughout the state.

Duties

  • Process and maintain records of law library materials and delivery of law library services.
  • Ensure access to law library materials is maintained in accordance with DOC directives and local operational memoranda.
  • Assist library users in locating desired reference material and use of law library resources.
  • Assist with I/I legal questions
  • Schedule and monitor visits with DOC contract lawyers on legal and seminars.
  • Present weekly law library and legal services to new I/ls about the assistance, resources, services, and tablet/computer content available for legal research.
  • Remain knowledgeable about departmental, and Institutional changes affecting operation of the law library and other legal-access procedures.
  • Visit cell fronts as needed during periods of restricted movement lockdowns.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the day-to-day operations of two (2) law libraries at WCC (main law library and Restricted Housing satellite library) up to 2,000 I/I the facility.
  • Supervise two (2) law clerks providing legal services to the I/I population.
  • Perform various supervisory duties requiring independent judgment and actions to run the law libraries smoothly and effectively.
  • Monitor purchasing supplies of WCC law libraries in compliance within the expenditures allocated for one (1) main law library and its annex.
  • Maintain and publish the law library schedule and ensure an adequate number of law clerks are available to meet the needs of the schedule.
  • Instruct law clerks, staff, and volunteers in law library operations, policies and procedures, and delivery of service to users.
  • Train I/I clerks in law library procedures and delivery of service to users in a professional manner.
  • Prepare the daily call-out scheduling I/I access to the law library.
  • Provide notary services for I/I.


Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent AND:
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in office/clerical, secretarial, bookkeeping, accounting, or general administrative work.

Note: Formal education may substitute year for year for experience.

Desired:
Four years of experience in the functional operations of a library and/or archives including at least one year at the senior level or equivalent.
