Summary of Duties:

This position covers extra assignments, vacancies and / or vacation vacancies that accrue to Baggage/Red Caps/Info/Gateman in South Station, Boston. Performs the duties of the assignment covered and / or other duties as assigned by supervisor.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Handles checked luggage according to company procedures
  • Collect and protect all charges on excess baggage and parcel checks
  • Maintain baggage records and receive/sort company mail
  • Handle inquiries for lost or delayed baggage
  • Provide assistance to elderly/ADA passengers as required
  • Drive and operate mechanical equipment
  • Assist Amtrak passengers with information regarding routes, schedules, fates, Arrival/Departure and paging requests
  • Answer telephone requests for information and paging
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor.
  • Responsible for the safe and secure boarding of Amtrak passengers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education development (GED) high school equivalency diploma
  • Knowledge on how to operate ARROW ticketing
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Required to wear uniform


COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Taking direction from crew and keeping communication with Solari with status of train and boarding times
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

The hourly range is $26.30 - $35.07 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment). If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.



In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. §1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
