This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate’s credibly possessed and proven competencies. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher level after completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work.

Human Resource Consultant 1 (Anchorage) - $29.55/Hour
Human Resource Consultant 1 (Juneau) - $31.03/Hour
Human Resource Consultant 2 (Anchorage) - $2,722.40/Biweekly
Human Resource Consultant 2 (Juneau) - $2,858.40/Biweekly

What you will be doing:
Join a team that is committed to delivering outstanding HR services for the State of Alaska. The incumbent will partner with client agencies to support a wide range of performance management and progressive discipline needs. This includes advising on performance coaching tools, handling the progressive discipline process, conducting investigations, and providing guidance on a variety of personnel matters. Employee Relations is a supportive, fun team environment. Team members enjoy strong relationships with their peers and client agencies as they help State agencies manage their workforce to meet their mission.

The working environment you can expect:
We are committed to employee wellness and offer hybrid telework scheduling to meet work life balance needs. Positions will be filled in Anchorage or Juneau, depending on the location of the selected candidate. Juneau-based Employee Relations staff work in the State Office Building, located in the heart of downtown Juneau. Anchorage-based Employee Relations staff work in the Atwood Building in the heart of downtown Anchorage. Both offer ample access to nearby amenities.

To be successful in the position, the ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:
  • A background that provides a solid foundation for advising management, conducting investigations, and understanding/applying employment laws and contract terms
  • Interpersonal effectiveness, including the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to explain technical information, address complex issues, and resolve sensitive matters amongst individuals with divergent viewpoints
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to effectively identify and evaluate a wide variety of information to arrive at a well-reasoned conclusion
  • Exceptional client service skills, demonstrating a commitment to diversity while working with people with varying skill sets and levels of experience
  • Demonstrated effectiveness with independently managing workflow, including ongoing assignments and unanticipated changes in work tasks and priorities
