The HIV/AIDS Health Educator is responsible for the creation and implementation of a clinic and community focused health education program regarding the prevention and treatment of HIV, and its common co-infections.The creation of this program will involve the development and implementation of a comprehensive HIV/AIDS Prevention Communications Plan.This plan will focus on areas of need within the community, identifying current and potential community partners, and exploring the use of social media and other outlets for educational campaigns.This plan will be informed by ANHC patient information, local, state, and national data. Educational efforts will focus on the importance of HIV testing, harm reduction strategies to mitigate risk, clinically proven strategies to prevent HIV infection, and common co-infections.Target audiences include ANHC patients and general community members at increased risk for HIV infection, people living with HIV, and ANHC staff.This role will provide individual and group health educational services both at ANHCs clinic and at other community locations. The HIV/AIDS Health Educator works closely with the ANHC Care Team, which may include doctors, nurses, nurse case managers,other clinical staff, and community partners to support positive patient health outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development and implementation of culturally competent and clinically accurate marketing strategy regarding HIV prevention. This includes community campaigns and educational efforts for both patients and community members.
Development of culturally competent and clinically accurate patient/community educational materials. This may include posters, educational packets, and group or 1:1 training curriculum.
Development and coordination of training plans for Ryan White and other ANHC staff. This may include coordination of guest presenters or external trainings for clinical care providers.
Implementation of public facing educational campaigns.
Manage logistics for program including survey administration, data collection, and reporting.
Meet with ANHC patients to assess their health needs and to serve as an on-going resource for patients. Teach patients about behaviors and treatment options that can reduce risk for HIV infection and common co-infections.
Create customized health and wellness plans to improve patient health outcomes.
Coordinate with Care Team members (primary care providers, case managers etc.) to facilitate patient care.
Maintain appropriate documentation of all patient encounters and complete reporting requirements according to organizational and grant standards.
Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with federal, state, and local privacy laws.
Develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations; this includes organizations doing similar work and those outside of healthcare who serve high-risk community members.
Participation in the Alaska Integrated HIV/AIDS Advisory Group.
Provide support to community partners through provision of education materials and educational sessions. Sessions may be for agency staff and/or general community members.
Must be able to work flexible schedule that includes occasional evening and weekend events.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Work Experience: Minimum of two years working in HIV/AIDs treatment or prevention, or a related epidemiological field or two years in health education. Experience in both health education and HIV prevention preferred. Personal/lived experience with HIV may replace occupational HIV experience. Education, Certification and Licensure: Bachelors degree in Health Education, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Public Health, Communications, or a related field. Degree in Health Education preferred. Must have a valid drivers license and vehicle available for work-related travel. Additional Skills & Knowledge: Competence with Microsoft 365 Office Suite. Experience with Epic and/or Canva preferred. Basic data analysis skills preferred.
PHYSICAL, SENSORY, ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for up to seven hours in a day. Must be able to communicate clearly via telephone, verbally in person, and in writing. Must be able to use a computer, multi-line phone, and other office equipment. Must be able to drive personal car for work-related activities, have current driver's license, proof of automobile insurance and clean driving record. Must provide current motor vehicle record. Mileage reimbursed at current IRS business mileage rate. Occasionally will exert up to 20 lbs. of force to move objects and files. Work is performed in a healthcare clinic and office setting. Occasional off-site settings possible, including community partner organizations, community shelters, and indoor and outdoor community events. ANHC is a tobacco-free campus.
