General Function
Under minimal direction, the archivist is responsible for the management, administration, and development of the Central Piedmont Community College archives. The position identifies, collects, processes and digitize materials that relate to the history of Central Piedmont and its purpose, mission and vision in the Charlotte Metropolitan Region.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge of archival standards and practices.
- Appraises, organizes and processes archival collections.
- Preserves and digitizes archival materials such as photos, videos, audio recordings, etc
- Compiles finding aids, reference guides, articles, statistics, reports etc.
- Uses management systems such as Archives Space and Content DM to provide access to archival records.
- Performs cataloging of archival collections per archival standards.
- Provides archival reference and research services.
- Engages in long- and short-range planning for archives.
- Markets and promotes the college archives to students, faculty, staff and the greater Charlotte region.
- Trains, oversees, and provides leadership to full and part-time staff, students and volunteers who are assigned to projects in archives.
- Responsible for maintaining college records according to the North Carolina Community College System Retention Guidelines.
- Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Explains policies and procedures to students, faculty, staff and the public.
- Provides outreach and instructional research to the college community.
- Collaborates with other units throughout the college on archives-related projects.
- Stays abreast of archives and library issues and trends.
- Develops displays that highlight archival materials and engage the campus communities.
- Serves as a resource for College Administration in providing historical documents and information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Information Studies (MIS) or Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) (or equivalent) from an ALA-regionally accredited institution with five years professional experience as an archivist OR;
- Master’s degree in History/Public History with coursework in archival administration, plus five years professional experience as an archivist
Demonstrated knowledge of EAD, DACS, digitization processes and digital preservation standards, archival preservation principles and practice, and records management principles and practices. Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and administering policies in an archives or special collections unit.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
- Attention to detail
- General office experience with knowledge of office equipment, for example, computers, scanners, and audio recording devices
- Software knowledge, especially MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, Google Drive
- Experience with digital archives systems or databases

Working Conditions:
Indoor environment conditions; infrequently lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs.; infrequently pushing loaded book truck weighing up to 300 lbs.; infrequently pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, kneeling,
stooping, bending at the waist, and climbing.
