Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition is a very collegial and supportive department that has approximately 20 faculty members, 23 research associates and administrative staff, and serves ~500 undergraduate students across 3 majors: Nutrition Science (NS), Fermentation and Food Science (FFS), and Hospitality and Event Management (HEM). The department offers an accredited B.S. dietetics program and a M.S. coordinated dietetic internship program. The department engages in teaching, research, scholarly, and outreach activities to promote the development of knowledge and skills related to these three undergraduate majors.

Position Summary
The Academic Recruitment Success Coordinator within the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) in the College of Health & Human Sciences (CHHS) is a 12-month, full time Administrative Professional position. The Academic Recruitment Success Coordinator plays a key role in promoting undergraduate and graduate student recruitment and success through a variety of activities including outreach and education about the FSHN department and career paths, working closely with relevant department entities, and advising external prospective students, internal change of major students, and transfer students. The Academic Recruitment Success Coordinator works closely with the FFS Program Director, Dietetic Program Director, HEM Co-Program Coordinators, CHHS recruitment and communications staff, and other university advising staff. This position reports directly to the FSHN Department Head and Senior Academic Success Coordinator.

The Academic Recruitment Success Coordinator works to increase student recruitment, enrollment, and retention, and is a professional representative providing information to potential students, their families, counselors, and other groups interested in our programs. This position will identify and recruit quality students to the undergraduate programs in alignment with department priorities. The coordinator will serve as a point of contact for prospective students and families, with a focus on creating access to higher education and providing excellent customer service. The Academic Recruitment Success Coordinator will provide advising and support for undergraduate transfer, prospective, and change of major students, as well as students in department minors. This position supports an innovative and holistic approach by providing students with the assistance, guidance, and resources necessary to be successful, and will assist students in making critical transitions, develop academic plans, and connect with campus resources. In all its activities, the Academic Recruitment Success Coordinator will support the campus priority for a diverse and supportive learning environment. The successful applicant needs to have a strong work ethic, a willingness to serve in a wide variety of roles as needed, and be dedicated to the mission of the department.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Psychology, Human Development, Health Sciences, or related field
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or professional experience working with middle school, high school, and/or college students (experience gained while working as a college student may be considered)
  • Demonstrated experience with public speaking, including developing and giving presentations to groups of various sizes, demographics and backgrounds
  • Ability to travel for events
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the position start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a discipline related to program content areas, Higher Education, Counseling/Student Affairs, or Business/Communication
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and coordinating outreach and engagement programs in higher education or K-12 education
  • One year of customer service/client relations or similar experience, e.g., interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, coaching/mentoring, advising, and/or career counseling
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • One year of professional work experience in student affairs, advising, or student recruitment
  • Experience working with and serving the needs of underrepresented communities
  • Ability to work flexible, non-standard hours including some weekends
  • Bilingual ability a plus

Duty/Responsibility
  • Assist with coordination of Peer Ambassador recruitment programs
  • Coordinate outreach, recruitment, and enrollment of prospective first-year, change of major, and transfer students in alignment with department priorities; serve as primary point of contact for these student populations, and respond to student inquiries via e-mail and phone; lead program tours and advise prospective students on admission to the majors.
  • Liaise with various offices across the college and university to successfully coordinate outreach activities.
  • Seek input from faculty and staff to plan and execute outreach events. Compile data and feedback to assess effectiveness and make recommendations for future event and recruitment initiatives.
  • Promote, coordinate, and participate in university, college, and department events (such as Explore CSU, Choose CSU, custom visit days, Ram Welcome, etc.) as well as external events, with prospective students and their families.
  • Represent the FSHN department at university- and college- level (internal and external) recruitment and outreach events (hours may be outside of typical work hours – occasional weekend/evening availability needed).
  • Develop and implement strategies to strengthen partnerships and advance recruitment across CSU as well as at high schools and community colleges.
  • Create and manage print, web-based, and social media marketing and materials.
  • Develop and deliver presentations, interactive workshops, and activities to various audiences.
  • Plan and execute summer outreach programs and camps as determined by department priorities.

Advising and Retention of Undergraduate Students

Duty/Responsibility
  • Advise prospective, change of major, and transfer students on FFS, HEM, and NS curriculum; assist in developing initial graduation plans for these populations of students; serve as primary point of contact until students are assigned to an ASC in the department.
  • Understand and advise on university policies, including but not limited to: AUCC (All University Core Curriculum) requirements, registration procedures, add/drop and withdrawal policies, repeat/repair processes, transfer credit evaluations, change of major sessions, etc.
  • Partner with campus offices, including Collaborative for Student Achievement, Office of Academic Advocacy, Student Disability Center, Career Center, Cultural Centers, Education Abroad, Orientation and Transition Programs, Registrar’s Office, Housing and Dining Services, University Honors Program and other campus offices to facilitate student success.
  • Promote opportunities for student engagement, such as internships, volunteer placements, workshops, research, department events, etc. to connect students to broader community and hands-on experiences.
  • Maintain a collaborative and welcoming environment, and deliver consistent and accurate information.
  • Complete administrative functions including maintaining advising notes and student records.
  • Assist with summer orientation sessions and Ram Welcome for incoming first year/transfer students.
  • Along with ASC colleagues, represent department at College-level recruitment and advising meetings.
  • Coordinate centralized communication system for undergraduate students.
