The role/Te mahi
At its core, this transformational role supports the University’s strategy and vision to be a leader in upholding and honouring Te Tiriti and Pacific cultural values. As a Senior Strategic Leader Pacific, you will provide expert advice and support to the Human Resources Director on Pacific based initiatives across the organisation.
This role is fundamental in driving the development and implementation of strategies that will enhance and grow the Pacific workforce at Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka, aligning with the Pacific Strategic Framework and the organisation’s goals.
This role is a critical link between the university Pacific staff across all sites and HR. Underpinning this is ‘Le vā’ – the importance of and value of relationships. Working closely with the HR Director and as a member of the HR senior leadership team, the role will play a key part in ensuring HR policies, procedures and guidelines align with Vision 2040 and Pae Tata (strategic plan to 2030), Equity framework and the Pacific Strategic Framework, to uplift Pacific capabilities.

We are looking for a recognised leader who will champion our values: Manaakitaka/Respect, Pono/Integrity, Māhirahira/Curiosity and Wharawhanaukataka/Community.
You will also have:
  • Experience in workforce development, equity and/or diversity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills with the ability to champion Pacific priorities.
  • Strong relational skills and cultural awareness with experience in working with Pacific communities.
  • Competency in one or more Pacific language and culture.
  • Knowledge, practice and understanding of te Tiriti o Waitangi and awareness of Te Ao Māori.
  • Ability to lead through transformational change.
Experience working in a large and diverse organisation working with wide range of stakeholders is important for this role.

This is permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, based in Dunedin.
