About our team/Mō te tīma
The University of Otago is New Zealand's first and oldest University. It has a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages.
Uni Flats is a residential flatting community which provides around 900 rooms in more than 200 separate properties.
Uni Flats mission is to provide and manage quality accommodation for international, postgraduate, and other students attending the University of Otago. This is achieved by upholding the principles of Manaakitanga (caring and nurturing others), fostering a collegiate and respectful community, and working across the institution towards positive student outcomes.
The role/Te mahi
The Warden of University Flats is responsible for the management of all facets of University Flats services and the staffing team to support the mission. This includes overseeing resident selection, housing and safety, coordinating resources and ensuring a well-maintained and safely managed environment.
Uni Flats is a busy year-round operation of strategic importance to the University, especially in relation to the provision of accommodation for international students, and as such the Warden will maintain a close working relationship with the International Office.
We seek an experienced leader who is adept in building and leading a culture of high-quality service delivery, sustainable innovation, consistency and continuous improvement.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours), permanent position, located in Dunedin.
The appointments range for this role is $94,974 to $103,056. Top of range is $111,137.

Our ideal candidate will:
A relevant degree level tertiary qualification or commensurate experience is essential, with a preference for a candidate who has had experience working with tertiary students.
- Have a track record in outstanding leadership, management, budget and organisational skills.
- Have the ability to perform effectively and professionally in a complex and challenging environment.
- Be familiar with a culture of working with International and Postgraduate students.
- Have the ability to negotiate or persuade in a pragmatic direction.
- Have highly developed communication skills, using multiple media.
- Be able to prioritise resources to competing priorities effectively.
- Contribute more widely to the Campus and Collegiate Life Services Division.
