Field Worker - Project NEEV (Inclusive ECCE & FLN Program)

Essential Qualification and Experience:
  • Minimum qualification: High School Diploma (preferably with a focus on education or social work).
  • Prior experience working in rural communities, particularly in an education or child development capacity, is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of inclusive education and the challenges faced by children with disabilities.
  • Ability to engage with diverse communities and children from different backgrounds.

Job Summary:
The Field Worker will play a key role in demonstrating inclusive learning practices in Anganwadi centres and schools across 20 communities in Goalpara District. This position will focus on mapping children with disabilities, supporting their enrollment, improving learning environments, and facilitating community awareness of inclusive education. The Field Worker will closely engage with Anganwadi workers, school teachers, and parents to build their capacities in promoting inclusion and to ensure children with disabilities access quality learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Mapping and Identification:
  • Conduct mapping exercises in the 20 target communities to identify children with disabilities who are not currently enrolled in Anganwadi centers or schools.
  • Document the needs of identified children and link them to appropriate social protection schemes and services.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and community leaders to encourage the enrollment of children with disabilities in learning centers.
  • Capacity Building and Support for Anganwadi Workers and Teachers:
  • Provide hands-on support to Anganwadi workers and primary school teachers to create inclusive learning environments that accommodate children with diverse learning needs.
  • Deliver regular mentoring and follow-up visits to ensure that Anganwadi workers and teachers are implementing inclusive education strategies effectively.
  • Work closely with supervisors and mentors to provide continuous guidance on improving classroom interactions and fostering positive attitudes towards children with disabilities.
  • Community Engagement and Awareness Generation:
  • Organize community awareness programs and engagement events in collaboration with Anganwadi workers, teachers, and School Management Committees (SMCs) to raise awareness on the importance of inclusive education.
  • Facilitate discussions on the role of communities in supporting children with disabilities and promoting their inclusion in schools and early learning centers.
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of awareness materials, including posters and brochures, to enhance community understanding of inclusive education.
  • Parental Engagement and Support Groups:
  • Work with parents and caregivers of children with disabilities to form support groups that encourage active involvement in their child’s learning journey.
  • Provide training and guidance to parents on how to support learning at home for children with disabilities, including developing appropriate learning activities and routines.
  • Foster collaboration between parents, caregivers, and educators to create a strong support system for children with disabilities within the community.
  • Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Collect data on the progress and participation of children with disabilities in Anganwadi centers and schools.
  • Track the effectiveness of inclusive education strategies and provide feedback to project leads on challenges and successes.
  • Prepare reports and documentation on community engagement activities, capacity-building efforts, and the overall impact of the demonstration project.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse community members, including children, parents, and educators.
  • Empathy: A deep understanding of the challenges faced by children with disabilities and a commitment to supporting their education.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adjust teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of children.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of inclusive education practices and strategies, particularly in the context of working with children with disabilities.
  • Language: Proficiency in local languages and knowledge of the community context is essential.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify challenges in the field and propose practical solutions.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Awareness and respect for local traditions, cultures, and languages.
Other Requirements:
  • Willingness to travel within the block and surrounding areas as needed.
  • Ability to work in a rural setting and build trust with the local community.
  • Basic proficiency in local languages and dialects is a plus.
