We are currently accepting applications to fill the position of Payroll & Benefits Officer for our client located in St. John's, NL
This is a MAT leave role, contractual until January 31st, 2026
Shift: full-time (35hrs/week) | Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:30pm Shifts may end sooner or go longer depending on the volume of work each day.
Start Date: ASAP
Duties:
Providing support to the Human Resources department by:
1. Preparing and reviewing bi-weekly payroll including salary changes and retroactive payments
2. Preparing and producing off cycle payments and adjustment as needed
3. Calculating and preparing statutory deductions and other remittances
4. Preparing payroll reconciliations, T4’s, ROE’s, Workplace NL reports, pension adjustments
5. Reviewing audit reports to ensure accuracy of data
6. Preparing reports related to employee leave, sick leave etc.
7. Ensuring all employee information related to payroll and benefits is accurate and communicating changes to service providers
8. Preparing documentation related to new hires, terminations/retirements
9. Organizing and maintaining documentation related to the payroll and benefits function
10. Answering payroll, benefits, and pension questions from employees and acting as liaison with benefits and pension providers where required
11. Managing all incoming/outgoing correspondence related to payroll, benefits, and pensions
Qualifications:
- Completion of two-year Business Diploma Program
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in payroll, benefits, and leave management.
- Knowledge and experience administrating the Public Service Pension Plan through Provident10 and the Provincial Government Benefits Plan
- Holding active membership/certification with the Canadian Payroll Association would be an asset
- Experience with Sage 300 and employee self-serve systems is an asset
- Knowledge of payroll systems and processes, benefits, and pension
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to manage time and tasks by organizing work, setting priorities and meeting deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Frontline customer service skills and relationship building
- Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
