This full-time, ongoing opportunity offers a competitive salary range of $90,199 up to $102,002 pa + 15.4% superannuation.

The Australian Human Rights Commission is looking for a dedicated professional to join our Security Group, working alongside esteemed partners like the Australian Defence Force, Australian Federal Police, and Australian Border Force.

Skills & Experience

About the Role
As a Policy Officer, you’ll leverage your research expertise and understanding of human rights to support transformative projects aimed at enhancing workplace culture within our partner security agencies. You’ll play a crucial role in examining diversity and inclusion in recruitment and retention, promoting inclusive leadership, and championing gender equality and respectful workplace behaviours.
Key Responsibilities
  • Drive Cultural Reform: Contribute to impactful projects that align with strategic goals, timelines and budgets.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on human rights issues and workplace cultural reform, using various methodologies, including focus groups and interviews (some travel may be required).
  • Engage Stakeholders: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders within partner agencies and across the Commission.
  • Create Quality Materials: Prepare compelling reports, briefing papers, and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Strategic Planning: Support planning and performance measurement for partnership programs.
What We’re Looking For:
  • A solid understanding of contemporary human rights and cultural reform issues, particularly in male-dominated or command-and-control environments.
  • Experience in project management, research, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing demands.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Share Point, and database management.
  • Exceptional relationship-building abilities, ensuring stakeholder interests are acknowledged and managed professionally.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing high-quality research outputs.
