Australia is regularly affected by severe weather events. These events are growing in frequency and severity, leading to increased economic impact, vulnerability and potential magnitude of harm. To address this, the Bureau of Meteorology is delivering a more customer centric, unified and resilient national operation. This is an exciting strategic direction for the Bureau which will transform the way we deliver services to Australian communities.
The Bureau of Meteorology is developing and growing its Community Engagement capability, with a focus on public safety and effective risk management. As part of the Decision Support Services program, we seek to strengthen sector-wide capability across agencies, working with partners to equip, mobilise and integrate communities in preparation for, response to and recovery from disasters and emergencies. We provide specialist advice through knowledge sharing, collaborative action and the development of strong relationships built on mutual trust and respect.
As the Manager, National Community Engagement, you will lead community engagement processes, services and functions within the Community Services Group. We are seeking an experienced leader and specialist in community engagement and relationship management, with a strong track record delivering wide-reaching outcomes. The position will collaborate relentlessly across the Community Services Group, critical sector leaders, and the Bureau's leadership teams. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to help grow our organisational capabilities in community resilience and public safety, with an overarching vision to empower the Australian community to be resilient to the impacts of weather, water, climate and oceans through knowledge building, collaborative action and strong relationships built on mutual trust and respect.
To be successful in this role, you will display a curiosity on the impacts of the evolving weather, flood, ocean and climate landscape. The position's initial priority is to build the future way of working by shaping the Community Engagement function and ways of working – therefore, your leadership style will reflect a pragmatic response to ensure operations are collaborative, responsive and built on the principles of innovation and continuous improvement.
