The Role
The work of the EL 1 Investigations Manager (Principal Officer) is to research, understand and apply relevant legislation, policy, procedures and standards. They will engage with stakeholders to gather, analyse and interpret evidence to plan and conduct investigations under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act), resolve problems through consideration of circumstances, options and risk, develop and implement PID response processes and practices, deliver reports, briefs and advise on PID activities and practices.
An EL 1 Investigations Manager (Principal Officer) will be required to manage a team of investigators conducting administrative and criminal investigations, coach or lead projects, and will be accountable for the outcomes of the teams work and the appropriate use of resources to produce and achieve outcomes. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching and feedback, and reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit.
About our Team
The Directorate of Public Interest Disclosures is a small team of professionals dedicated to assessing and investigating disclosures made under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act). As part of the Defence Integrity Division, we regularly engage with various stakeholders across Defence, Commonwealth agencies, and the private sector.
The PID Act provides a framework for the disclosure and investigation of serious wrongdoing in the Commonwealth public sector offering a statutory reporting mechanism for current and former Defence officials (APS, ADF, and contractors). Investigations conducted by the Directorate are in line with Australian Government Investigation Standards and Commonwealth Ombudsman guidelines.
Our Ideal Candidate
Plan, lead and manage a team to conduct investigations into disclosures under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013.
Manage allocated resources, set work area priorities, develop strategies and evaluate business outcomes.
Deliver high quality advice to the Assistant Secretary Investigations and Public Interest Disclosures Branch on matters pertaining to Public Interest Disclosure investigations.
Interpret and apply relevant legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks to investigation activities.
Analyse and assess reports of wrongdoing or misconduct and use sound judgment to categorise the jurisdiction, complexity and seriousness of all allegations.
