Primary objective
Ensure the wellbeing of vulnerable children through effective complaints management, investigations and monitoring
activities. Provide advice to a broad range of stakeholders in relation to the Children’s Commissioner statutory functions.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Receive, assess, triage and manage complaints under the Children’s Commissioner Act.
2. Assist in the investigation of complaints and in matters relating to the Children’s Commissioner’s other statutory
functions, including own initiative investigations and monitoring activities.
3. Provide administrative support to the Monitoring and Investigations team and the OCC, including records and data
management.
4. Prepare concise reports and correspondence pertaining to the results of complaints management, investigations and
monitoring activities.
5. Provide relevant advice to a diverse range of stakeholders relating to the Children’s Commissioner statutory functions
and role.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. High level research and analytical skills.
2. Experience in complaint handling and resolution and conducting inquiries or investigations with minimal supervision.
3. Ability to interpret and apply legislation.
4. Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
5. Experience in monitoring and assessing compliance with legislation, policies and procedures.
6. Efficient workload management and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
7. Demonstrated ability to communicate and engage with children and young people, and with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
2. Understanding the issues relating to vulnerable children.
3. Preparedness to travel within the NT.
