Primary objective

Support the effective use of electronic monitoring equipment and undertake surveillance checks on offenders subject to the full range of

community-based orders, Parole Orders and those offenders released on an administrative permit by the Commissioner of the Department

of Corrections.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Conduct appropriate electronic surveillance and other compliance checks of non-custodial offenders including at their place of

residence, work, education and elsewhere on a random basis as directed.

2. Advise offenders of the condition of their orders, electronic monitoring and curfew requirements, and the consequences of non-

compliance with conditions and instructions.

3. Undertake and complete installation and retrieval of electronic monitoring equipment including cleaning and maintenance, testing

and reporting faults or repairs to the Team Leader for timely action.

4. Administer and supervise tests for alcohol and other drug (e.g. breath and urine) in accordance with agency policy and at the direction

of Probation and Parole Officers.

5. Report any failures or suspected failures of compliance and take action as directed including drafting breach orders.

6. Keep records, capture information on IT systems, prepare reports, collateral checks and other documentation relevant to the

management of community based offenders and attend court to give evidence as required.

7. Under appropriate supervision, monitor and manage a caseload of low-risk offenders in accordance with the requirements of

legislation and the Department of Corrections policy and procedures.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Sound written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and prepare and provide

written documentation.

2. Proven ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and in particular actively engage with Aboriginal people,

communities and various government agencies.

3. Proven ability to work independently, as part of a team, meet deadlines and work flexible hours with minimal supervision.

4. An understanding of the technologies relevant to electronic monitoring and the ability to use IT systems, acquire and keep up to date

with technological changes relating to electronic monitoring or ability to gain in a timely manner.

Desirable

1. Previous experience working within Community Corrections, criminal justice or related fields, or knowledge of the Northern Territory

criminal justice system, and the role of Department of Corrections within that system.

Further information

Successful applicant must hold a manual Northern Territory Driver’s Licence, and may be required to travel within regional and remote

communities and camp out when required. Travel may be by means of road and air, including on outback roads in four wheel drives, light

aircraft and boats.

The Department of Corrections has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on departmental premises, facilities

or in vehicles, nor whilst working off-site. The preferred applicant/s will be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and the

successful applicant/s will be required to undergo a criminal history check (confirmed by fingerprints and name check) prior to

commencement of employment. An adverse criminal history will not necessarily exclude an applicant from this position. All Department

of Corrections employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
