Primary objective
Manage an audit team and administer the departments audit program on construction projects to determine and adopt
compliance with applicable Northern Territory Government and/or Commonwealth of Australia Government laws,
regulations, standards, and contracts. Act as the recognised reference point for external and internal stakeholders to provide
expert advice and ensure all persons are fully informed to mitigate risk.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Administer the departments audit program on construction project contract requirements for work health and safety,
local content, Aboriginal engagement, and quality management and assist with the management of a consultant panel
contract of external auditors.
2. Provide expert advice to stakeholders on reported contractor health and safety matters, including monitoring
compliance against legislative and contractual requirements.
3. Assist in leading the broader unit and manage a small team of auditors, building on their capabilities to strengthen
consultation, engagement, and communication to deliver an effective service.
4. Prepare or contribute to the preparation of executive reports and resolution strategies which may involve contentious
and/or business critical issues.
5. Prepare and deliver training to internal and external stakeholders across the Northern Territory to enhance levels of
industry knowledge and compliance.
6. Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of ICT reporting systems which enable the collection and
analysis of data to identify risk to the department and areas for future improvement.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive broad experience gained at a middle to senior management level in audits, evaluations, risk management and
change management.
2. Experience working within a regulatory environment applying legislation, policies, and procedures.
3. Well-developed interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships and minimise conflict.
4. Demonstrated successful leadership experience with the ability to exercise discretion and achieve high standard
outcomes in tight timeframes with competing priorities.
5. Demonstrated experience preparing and conveying complex information concisely and accurately to diverse audiences.
6. Sound knowledge using databases and spreadsheets for analysis and reporting.
Desirable
1. Qualifications in Auditing and Work Health and Safety awarded by an Australian institution.
2. Certificate IV in Government Investigations or similar.
