Primary objective
Provide a high standard of pool safety advice to members of the public, undertake pool fencing inspections and assessment
and make recommendations to the Swimming Pool Safety Authority in accordance with the Swimming Pool Safety Act .
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide advice and accurate information to the public on the provisions, options, obligations and entitlements under the
Swimming Pool Safety Act and associated standards.
2. Conduct pool safety barrier inspections for existing and proposed swimming pools, assessing the swimming pool barriers
against the appropriate standards; associated with the inspections, prepare inspection reports, correspondence and
documentation for approval by the Swimming Pool Safety Authority, which include diagrammatic representation of pool
fencing specifications.
3. Enter and maintain accurate records in the swimming pool safety module of ILIS database for client information and
management purpose.
4. Provide administrative support to the Swimming Pool Fencing Unit, including responding to enquiries and taking
inspection bookings.
5. Work as a member of a team and contribute to the development of policies and operational procedures and innovative
ideas.
6. Provide advice and document evidence relating to contraventions of provisions of the Act and assist in developing and
actioning prosecution matters.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Well-developed written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse
cultures to convey technical information.
2. High level attention to detail with demonstrated experience preparing factual and objective reports and correspondence.
3. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and relevant standards, in addition to the ability to read technical
drawings.
4. Proven ability to analyse a situation and think conceptually to solve problems in a logical manner to achieve practical
outcomes.
5. Well-developed organisational, time management and administration skills, with the proven ability to work without
direct supervision and within a team.
6. Demonstrated ability to maintain composure to negotiate positive outcomes from conflict situations while remaining
professional.
7. Hold a current ‘C’ class NT Drivers Licence and a willingness and capacity to work in rural, regional and sometimes
difficult to access areas.
