ABOUT THE ROLE
The Club Development Lead is responsible for supporting and developing Regional AFL Leagues and affiliated clubs across NSW/ACT have strong governance, connectivity, structure, and are financially secure and sustainable. The role is crucial in managing risk, supporting volunteers, building capability, and enhancing the overall quality of community club environments to support the recruitment and retention of players, volunteers, coaches and umpires
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead and deliver support initiatives that promote good governance in clubs whilst minimising volunteer strain
- Lead best practice club experience and retention programs and initiatives
- Implement and support current AFL Canberra Premier Clubs minimum standards criteria program to strengthen and grow the Premier competition.
- Support identified existing and aspiring clubs to meet and exceed AFL Canberra Premier Clubs minimum standards criteria.
- Work with Regional Participation Managers and Competition Managers to maximise the movement and retention of participants through Club Auskick/Superkick, Junior, Youth and Senior Football and support appropriate and bespoke regional plans.
- Engage with functional leads across coaching, umpiring and W&G and connect resources into clubs
- Develop and drive action plans for identified ‘at risk’ clubs in the region
- Promote and drive self-sufficiency and capacity in regions and clubs by promoting resources such as “AFL Club Help”
- Engage volunteers with best practice education and compliance programs by coordinating seminars and workshops (programs may include Safeguarding Children, Concussion, Social Media usage, Respect and Responsibility, Racial Vilification and Inclusion and Cultural Awareness programs)
- Drive clubs to identify and register a club volunteer coordinator in Play HQ
- Create best practice recruitment, retention, reward and recognition opportunities for volunteerism
- Roll-out National Club Development Priorities and grant programs to regions and clubs
- Appropriate in-field presence at region and club meetings, match- day and events as required
- Work with and support the ACT/Regional Manager drive strategic projects to deliver club and competition strength
OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER
Core Competencies:
- Understanding of the volunteer capacities and environments of community sporting clubs
- Knowledge and understanding of community football in NSW/ACT
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with a high level of stakeholder management skills particularly in negotiation
- Ability to build strong working relationships – both internal and external
- Demonstrated personal initiative and ability to work effectively unsupervised whilst a member of a team
- Current Driver's Licence
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours to meet and work with volunteers
- Proficiency in use of computers, document presentation and of Microsoft applications
- Experience in volunteering in a community sport environment
- Experience or knowledge of elevated community sporting club environments in ACT and Regional networks
