Primary objective
Provide a high level of administrative, WHS, human resource and financial support to the Agribusiness Development Unit, Research Farms,
and Plant and Livestock Industries staff in the northern region.
Context statement
The Agribusiness Development Unit forms part of the Agriculture Branch of the department and includes seven Research Farm facilities
across Darwin, Katherine, and Alice Springs. The Research Farms conduct horticultural and livestock research for the development of the
north Australian agricultural sector.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Advise and support Research Farm management in meeting Work Health and Safety requirements, including policy and procedure
development, injury and incident reporting and compliance auditing.
2. Advise and assist Research Farm management and staff to ensure compliance with NTG and departmental processes, policies, and
procedures.
3. Undertake administrative tasks associated with procurement, corporate credit card processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable,
purchase orders, human resource management and other duties as required to support divisional staff.
4. Coordinate and assist in the preparation of briefings, reports, general correspondence, meeting minutes and records management.
5. Coordinate arrangements for travel, vehicles, phones, and ICT equipment for the Unit, including payment of monthly accounts.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in Work Health and Safety legislation, procedures, and principles, preferably in relation to farms and facility-
based workplaces.
2. Proven experience working in an administrative support role performing a range of financial and human resource management tasks
including accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, travel, and recruitment services.
3. Proven organisational skills, including the ability to self-motivate, perform under pressure, and prioritise commitments to meet critical
deadlines.
4. Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team environment.
5. Well-developed communication skills including the capacity to provide advice on administrative processes to all staff levels and the
ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
6. Well-developed written communication skills to enable drafting of clear and concise correspondence such as memos, reports, and
minutes.
Desirable
1. Hold a current NT drivers’ licence and drive a 4WD vehicle.
2. Knowledge of the agricultural sector
