The opportunity we have available
The Strategic Fleet Program Team is responsible for implementing the Australian Government’s response to the Strategic Fleet Taskforce report. The Taskforce presented 16 recommendations to establish the Strategic Fleet including its supporting requirements, including workforce and skills development; amending regulatory frameworks; and potential commercial and Government partners.
The Department has whole of program oversight as well as delivery responsibility for a number of the recommendations within the Strategic Fleet program including establishing a strategic fleet of 12 Australian flagged and crewed vessels and two legislative reviews.

The Strategic Fleet Program Team has an APS6 Program Management Support Officer position available to support the ongoing management of the Strategic Fleet Program. As the Program Management Support Officer you will assist with all program and project management activities, ensuring compliance with legislation, program governance frameworks, best practice processes and procedures.

What will you do?
Duties will include:

  • providing secretariat support to the Strategic Fleet Program Board, Interdepartmental Working Groups and DITRDCA Program Monitoring Working Group
  • coordinating the preparation of monthly program progress reports with each of the project leads
  • assisting with preparation of program management documentation including the development of program strategies
  • ensuring program management documentation is kept up to date including benefit, risk, issues, action and decisions registers
  • fostering program management capability development within the branch
  • building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders enabling productive liaison in relation to program implementation;
  • assisting the program manager in analysis of program risks to ensure program benefits are not compromised
  • preparing for the Department of Finance’s Gateway Review processes.

The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the APS6 Work level standards.

The right person for this role will be an individual who:

  • has experience in program and project management,
  • has influenced outcomes in a government environment and is proactive in identifying what needs to be done,
  • is experienced in the practice of benefits management,
  • is proficient in risk management and
  • has demonstrated the adaptability and flexibility required to respond to the needs of their stakeholders.
  • has certification in program management (desirable)

Eligibility requirements
Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

  • Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
  • Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
